Basic Underpainting Techniques
Cheryl O’Brien is a Palmerston North Artist who’s passions began in South Africa where she was born before moving to New Zealand in 1996.
Her passion for art and all things creative started as early as she can remember. Cheryl spent many hours as a child drawing and scribbling on anything that she could find, doodling in class and excelling at Art in school, often with top marks. This natural ability and passion saw Cheryl moving straight into a foundation Art course at Poly Tech in 1998, before stepping away to raise her daughter in 2000.
Art and creativity came back into Cheryl’s life on a more permanent basis when she decided to start up a cake decorating business in 2011 called Lady C’s Cake Boutique. This outlet created a space for Cheryl to show case her creative talents in a more diverse set of mediums which involved a large amount of sculpting cake and icing as well as watercolor painting onto cakes and so much more. Her page on Facebook is still active for the inquisitive among us.
Since then Cheryl has been working full time but has been spending time exploring other artistic outlets, such as oil painting, portrait painting, landscape painting, acrylic painting, Abstract realism, Surrealism, Art meditation and mixed media art.
Cheryl has recently made the move from the corporate world to starting her own business as an artist specializing in painting as well as becoming the new owner of Ochre Art, art supplies earlier this year. Cheryl has a passion for motivating and inspiring people to unleash their inner Artist, helping them blossom into the best version of themselves and does this through holding workshops throughout the year as well as being an active mentor for young people through the Feilding and Districts Art Centre Mentor Program.
