Sculping in Oamaru Stone makes Carla's soul sing! In 2007 she cut into her first piece of Oamaru Stone! Working Oamaru stone take a similar effort to working timber. Yet with the stone there is no grain direction to consider. You can use ordinary tools readily available in hardware or 2nd hand shops.
Carla forms intuitive works and often teaches her skills.

Carla's work is very intuition based, feeling that the stone it waiting to reveal itself.

Developing from a cut block, Carla has a variety of "starts" waiting for their turn to be developed up.

Finished sculptures are smoothed with sand paper, and sometimes left with exagerated texture. Carla applies a water suspended silicon cost to slow down moss and lichen growth in the weather.
